The Ukrainian military controls about a thousand square kilometres of territory in the Kursk region (Russia). This was reported by [Kommersant] news agency, citing a statement by the chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He provided this information during a meeting with Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“The situation is under our control. We now control about 1,000 km² of the territory of the Russian Federation,” Syrskyi said.
By the way, during the meeting, the President of Ukraine admitted for the first time that the military operation in the Kursk region was being conducted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The most important thing was the report of the Chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on our defensive actions at the front and the operation in the Kursk region. We are grateful to all the soldiers and commanders for their resilience and decisive actions,” he said.
At the same time, former Deputy Prosecutor General Gunduz Mamedov believes that Ukraine now has new obligations due to the presence of Russian troops in the Kursk region.
“Given that the nature of the hostilities has changed and new circumstances have emerged after the events in Kursk, Ukraine now has new obligations. We have always demonstrated our readiness to comply with international humanitarian law [and] must continue this strategy in the occupied territories of Russia,” Mamedov wrote.
He called on the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff to develop a relevant policy and implement it based on compliance with the Geneva Conventions.
