Law enforcers detained a soldier, Serhiy Gnezdilov, who had previously publicly announced his unauthorised leave from service. The soldier of the 56th Separate Mechanised Brigade wrote about this on his Facebook page on 9 October, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“I have been detained,” the soldier wrote.

The information was confirmed by the State Bureau of Investigation. It is now known that Gnezdilov’s actions were classified as desertion.

Serhiy Hnezdilov’s case: what the SBI says
In addition to information about the actual detention of the soldier, the agency clarified the details of his case. It turned out that on 23 September 2024, the Donetsk Special Prosecutor’s Office for Defence of the Eastern Region opened proceedings on the desertion of a serviceman based on media reports and assigned the investigation to the Bureau.
The next day, the brigade also appointed an internal investigation, which found that the soldier had “committed actions that have signs of a criminal offence”.
It was preliminarily established that in early September, the serviceman was sent to the hospital for a medical examination by the VLC, but did not actually undergo the examination and did not stay in the medical facility, and after the VLC expired, he did not return to his place of service and was actually hiding from law enforcement for two weeks.
It should be noted that on 21 September, Gnezdilov posted on Facebook that he was going to join the SZH until the establishment of clear terms of service or until his 25th birthday. He said that he wanted to draw attention to the problem when some people in society are fighting indefinitely, while others do not plan to mobilise.

Serhiy Hnezdilov is a Ukrainian military man, civil activist and participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. He joined the armed forces voluntarily in 2019.
