The U.S. administration has approved a possible arms sale to Germany worth about $3.5 billion. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale to Berlin will include Standard Missile 6 Block I and Standard Missile 2 Block IIIC ship-based air defense missiles. The main contractor is the RTX defense concern, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
The report of the US agency indicates that the German government has submitted a request for the purchase of 750 missiles of both types of RTX production, as well as equipment.
The deal must be approved by the US Congress
The DSCA states that this agreement should improve Germany’s ability to counter current and future threats and “contribute to the security of the US NATO ally,” which is “a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
Bloomberg notes that the German government and arms manufacturers have yet to agree on the terms of the contract, and the US Congress could block the sale.
