The government and opposition argue over the late arrival of SN MPs to the meeting with the president

ANALYSIS

Yesterday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with MPs from the Servant of the People faction at the Office of the President of Ukraine. The meeting was held behind closed doors, but it has already become quite resonant.

MP Oleksiy Honcharenko wrote that ten MPs who were only 5 minutes late were not allowed to attend the meeting.

“The most interesting thing that happened there was that 10 MPs were late. And they were late for good reasons, they were running to the meeting, trying to be on time. And they were not allowed in, they took their phones, thought about whether to let them in, then gave them back their phones and finally did not let them in. This is the atmosphere,”

– the MP wrote.

Honcharenko claims that the purpose of the meeting was to “return the votes in the Rada that are needed to pass laws,” but now the OP is unlikely to be able to count on the votes of the 10 “offended” MPs.

"Komersant Ukrainian" asked the participants of the meeting whether it was really as Goncharenko claims.

Refutation from the “servants”

MP Hennadiy Kasai said that he was not aware of any such information about his colleagues being barred from the meeting.

“I know that the president was also a little late, and he just gave everyone time to arrive on time and be able to meet with our president,”

– Kasai explained .

But the MP also expressed a principled position:

“there is no need to be late for such meetings.”

Kasai confirmed his presence at the event and said that “everything was fine.”

Another MP from the Servant of the People party, Heorhiy Mazurashu, also denied the information about his colleagues being barred:

“I was at this meeting, but I did not hear about anyone being barred. Perhaps there were situations when someone was late and did not want to come in. Some people, when they come later, decide that it is better not to come in,”

– the MP suggested.

Mazurashu categorically denied that there was any forced exclusion:

“I didn’t see anyone closing the door of the room where the meeting was taking place.”

At the same time, he recalled one episode after the two-hour event when he saw a colleague outside the hall, but noted:

“I don’t think that MP had been waiting for two hours.”

Conclusions

Interviewees mPs who attended the meeting refute Honcharenko’s statement, saying that they are not aware of any MPs being barred. The official position of the Presidential Office on this situation has not yet been made public, and it is unlikely to be. So, to our readers readers will have to decide for themselves who to believe.
