DTEK loses 50% of its capacity as a result of the Russian strike

DTEK Group lost about half of its capacity as a result of a massive Russian attack on the Ukrainian energy system on 22 March. This was announced by Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

“DTEK Group has lost 50% of its generating capacity. We can officially announce this information,”

– kovalenko said during the telethon.

He noted that this time the Russians hit both the generating and distribution parts of the Ukrainian energy system.

“Several types of generating facilities were hit, a large number of thermal power plants were hit, and a hydroelectric generating facility was hit. The enemy hit a lot of Ukrenergo’s grid nodes, transformers, etc… This attack simultaneously destroys the system’s ability to transmit electricity and reduces our generation capabilities,”

– said the CEO of the company.

Kovalenko added that the restoration of the system would take several months.

on 22 March, Russia carried out the most massive combined shelling of Ukrainian cities and facilities. In particular, DniproHES and other Ukrainian energy facilities were hit.

DTEK is Ukraine’s largest private energy company owned by oligarch Rinat Akhmetov. According to Forbes, before the full-scale war, the company produced 90% of Ukraine’s coal, controlled about 70% of thermal generation and held a third of the electricity market. Due to the war, DTEK Energy’s revenues fell by 20%, electricity production dropped by 30%, and its share in the electricity market dropped to 20%.
