The enemy is attacking the energy sector: Ukrenergo introduces emergency power cuts

The Russian army targeted the energy sector during a massive attack on 26 August. This was announced by the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“The desire to destroy our energy sector will cost the Russians dearly, their infrastructure,” Yermak wrote.

In particular, power outages have been reported in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa and other cities.

In Kyiv, there were emergency power outages, said Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko.

In addition to Kyiv, the power grid has been hit in Dnipro. There are power outages in some places.

“The exact cause will be established after the alarm is over. Stay safe. There are emergency blackouts in Kyiv,” he said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that there were water supply interruptions on the right bank.

“There are interruptions in water supply on the right bank of the capital due to power outages,” he said.

The power went out during the live broadcast of the telethon. The presenters were in the dark.

The KIAA added that Ukrenergo had ordered emergency blackouts.

“Please note that during emergency outages, schedules that can be predicted in advance are not valid,” the statement said.

DTEK also said that Ukrenergo had ordered emergency blackouts.

“We would like to draw your attention to the fact that during emergency blackouts, schedules that can be predicted in advance do not apply. Power engineers across the country are working 24/7 to bring electricity back to the homes of Ukrainians,” the statement said.

In Odesa, there are also power outages due to shelling. At the same time, the city’s electric transport was temporarily suspended due to the blackout.

In Mykolaiv, emergency power outage schedules were introduced due to the massive attack.

“We have received an instruction from NPC Ukrenergo to apply emergency outage schedules! We are disconnecting all the lines right now,” the power company said.

Lviv, Khmelnytsky and Zhytomyr also lost power.

Since 8:45 a.m., emergency shutdown schedules have been partially applied in Cherkasy region, the press service of Cherkasyoblenergo reported.

As a reminder, a large-scale Russian air attack on Ukrainian cities continues today, 26 August, which began around 1am.

As of 9:30 am, the entire territory of the country is under the threat of Russian air attacks.
