By the end of March, Ukraine will receive about 90 million cubic meters of American gas via a new route. For the first time, a shipment of liquefied natural gas will pass through the terminal in Klaipėda, Lithuania. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram channel of the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“The Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with the Lithuanian Ignitis Group, will ensure the supply of 90 million cubic meters by the end of March this year,” Shmyhal said.

According to him, the diversification of supply routes increases the flexibility and stability of the energy system against the backdrop of daily Russian attacks.

“Ukraine is also working on developing other regional supply routes, in particular the Vertical Gas Corridor. Together with our partners, we are building a new energy security for Europe, where there will be no place for Russian molecules, and Ukraine will be one of the energy hubs of the region,” Shmyhal added.

Naftogaz will independently deliver gas to Ukraine in February-March, said Serhiy Koretsky, chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

“This is another step in diversifying gas supply routes for Ukraine. We are consistently expanding cooperation with European partners to ensure reliable and flexible supplies of resources in the context of war and systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. This is necessary to ensure stability both this and next heating season,” said Serhiy Koretsky, chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

The LNG terminal in Klaipėda is one of the most actively used in Europe; through it, Lithuania can contribute to reliable gas supplies and strengthen the energy security of its partners in Ukraine, explained Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.

“We have found ways to use the existing infrastructure more efficiently and provide real support to the people of Ukraine as quickly as possible. We aim to build on our experience of supplying LNG through the Lithuanian Independence terminal and turn it into a stable, long-term option for supplying LNG through the Amber Gas Corridor regional route we have initiated,” said the Lithuanian Minister of Energy.

Deliveries via the terminal in Klaipėda complement existing LNG import routes and strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s gas supply by reducing dependence on individual routes and increasing the flexibility of the system.

“This cooperation is an important milestone for regional energy security and Ukraine’s resilience. By securing our first LNG delivery to Ukraine, we are demonstrating how regional infrastructure and reliable partnerships can provide real, practical support in times of need. Ignitis Group has proven to be a reliable and flexible partner capable of delivering complex cross-border energy operations, and we are ready to support similar initiatives in the future,” said Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.

Naftogaz said it continues to work with international partners to attract additional gas volumes to ensure stable heating seasons and the country’s energy security.

As a reminder, in early February, the first shipment of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Poland arrived in Ukraine this year. The volume of the shipment is almost 100 million cubic meters.
