Explosion at Ukrposhta – police seize ammunition in suspect’s apartment (photos)

                                                                    After the explosion at the Ukrposhta sorting center in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, which injured five people, police quickly tracked down the sender of the dangerous parcel. It was a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil. During a search of his apartment, law enforcement officers seized several dozen rounds of ammunition. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv police, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports 
What happened
On the evening of October 30, an explosion occurred at the Ukrposhta sorting center in the Solomyansky district of the capital during the inspection of a parcel. According to preliminary reports, five people were injured – postal workers and customs officers.
After the incident, an investigative team, explosive experts and dog handlers arrived at the scene. During the examination, they found the remains of a shell that exploded during the inspection of the shipment.
How the suspect was found
Police operatives identified the sender of the parcel – a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil.
During the joint actions of the Kyiv and Ternopil police, the man was detained at his place of residence in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.









During the search of the apartment, law enforcement officers seized several more rounds of ammunition. Also, another parcel from the same sender with emptied ammunition was found in the sorting center.

What the police say
According to preliminary information, the man was making “souvenirs” out of ammunition on his own – engraving them and sending them by mail.
Kyiv police investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives.
The sanction of this article provides for imprisonment for up to 7 years.

The police reminded that ammunition, weapons or explosives are not a souvenir or a toy. Their possession, transfer or shipment is life-threatening and entails criminal liability.
