Explosions in downtown Lviv. A “Shahed” drone struck a 17th-century cultural landmark

On the afternoon of March 26, Russian occupation forces launched a massive attack using kamikaze drones on western regions of Ukraine. One of the Shahed-type drones struck the roof of a building near the Bernardine monastery complex—a unique architectural landmark of national significance. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported the strike in the city center, according to [Komersant].

According to eyewitnesses, the enemy drone pierced the roof of one of the complex’s buildings. A fire broke out at the site of the strike,

“A residential building in the center of Lviv was damaged as a result of the enemy attack. All emergency services have been dispatched to the scene,” said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi

The fire engulfed the roof. According to preliminary data, as reported by the mayor, two people were injured.

According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, residential buildings on Soborna Square and Chervona Kalina Street caught fire in Lviv as a result of the Russian drone attack. He also provided details of the strike on the city center.

“An architectural monument of national significance—the Bernardine Monastery Complex—has been damaged. It is located within the historic area of Lviv, a site listed on the International List of Cultural Heritage under enhanced protection. The fire has engulfed the adjacent buildings of the complex,” the regional head reported.

Drones also struck the region. Additionally, a private home in the village of Sernyky, Bibrsk Territorial Community, caught fire due to falling UAV debris.

“Firefighters are working everywhere. Preliminary reports indicate that seven people were injured. One person is in critical condition,” Kozytskyi reported.

Ternopil was also hit: a Shahed drone struck an administrative building in the city. There were also strikes in Ivano-Frankivsk, where the Russians hit the city center. The Russians also struck the center of Vinnytsia.
