CES 2025: L’Oréal’s skin analysis gadget, Samsung’s magic mirror, and more

L’Oréal has joined the group of brands investing in next-generation skincare technologies and presented a new gadget for personalized skin analysis called Cell BioPrint at the CES 2025 consumer electronics exhibition in Los Angeles, USA. TechRadar tells about this and other novelties offered to visitors of the exhibition, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.

A gadget from L’Oréal

The Cell BioPrint device uses the advanced technology of the Korean biotechnology startup NanoEnTek and can diagnose skin using biomarkers patented by L’Oréal.

According to the manufacturer, the gadget is able to determine the level of skin aging, its reaction to active ingredients such as retinol, and predict possible cosmetic problems, such as pigmentation. The device is based on the use of proteomics, the science of proteins that affect the condition of the skin.

The analysis process takes about five minutes and includes three stages: applying the test strip to the cheek, placing it in a buffer solution, and loading the solution into the analysis cartridge. After that, the device takes pictures of the face, asks several questions about the skin condition, and provides diagnostic results.

The timing of the device’s launch and its cost have not yet been announced, but the company plans to test Cell BioPrint in collaboration with one of L’Oréal’s brands in Asia at the end of 2025.

L’Oréal believes that there is a market for such ideas. It cites a survey of 2,000 skin care users in the US, which showed that nearly 80% of respondents use trial and error when looking for their “go-to” skin care product, with an average person trying seven different cosmetics before finding one they are satisfied with.

Magic mirror by Samsung

The next wave of beauty products, according to TechRadar, will be powered by artificial intelligence and offer personalized suggestions and treatments that were previously part of expensive consultations.

Samsung’s new micro-LED mirror with AI technology is already at the crest of this highly intelligent cosmetic wave.

Actually, the most important thing to understand about this mirror is that it’s not really a mirror, but its surface is indeed a mirror structure with aluminum and niobium. And it looks very much like a mirror. At least, Samsung claims that the gadget has more than 80% mirror reflection.

The mirror was developed in partnership with the Korean cosmetics brand Amorepacific, and its algorithm is based on more than 20,000 diagnostic skin data from more than 19,000 users.

However, it is the image quality that deserves the real interest here. According to Samsung, the gadget’s micro-LED screen provides more than 90% light transmission, displaying a live image of your face during skin analysis.

After a quick scan of your face, the micro-LED mirror analyzes your skin to evaluate four different values: pores, wrinkles, melanin (tone), and erythema (redness) before providing a series of recommendations for purchasing, based on your results of course, a product from some of Samsung’s cosmetic partners such as Laneige and Innisfree.

This mirror is not the first of its kind, but thanks to Samsung’s high display technology and constantly improving AI software, the micro-LED mirror is considered one of the best new generation cosmetic devices and certainly one of the most interesting at CES 2025.

Smart glasses by Halliday

According to TechRadar, the best feature of these glasses is the Digi Window microdisplay for deception during meetings.

Smart glasses that don’t look like smart glasses could be one of the top trends at CES 2025 – and perhaps the most intriguing of them all, given Halliday’s attempt to create “proactive glasses with artificial intelligence.”

You can’t tell when you look at these classic glasses, but they’ve packed in a lot of the latest technology, including a tiny Digi Window microdisplay. To the wearer’s eye, this screen looks like a 3.5-inch monochrome display, which means that the glasses can act as a very knowledgeable assistant with tremendous artificial intelligence capabilities.

For example, this Halliday assistant can, of course, with your permission, listen in on conversations and answer questions during meetings or perform live translation when you’re traveling. It also has turn-by-turn navigation, teleprompter mode, and voice control on board. And these very smart glasses are set to hit the market in the first few months of 2025.
