Windows 11 stopped shutting down computers correctly after the update

Microsoft has announced that it has fixed a bug in Windows 11 that caused computers to unexpectedly restart instead of shutting down or going into sleep mode. The bug could lead to the loss of unsaved data and affected a limited number of users.

This was reported by PCMag, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The problem was related to the KB5073455 update released on January 13 and was officially confirmed in the Windows status report on January 16. The bug only appeared on devices running Windows 11 Enterprise and IoT with the Secure Launch security feature enabled.

The failure was caused by the incorrect operation of the protection mechanism that uses Dynamic Root of Trust for Measurement technology when the system starts up. As a result, attempting to shut down the computer did not shut it down, but instead caused it to restart. Until the final patch was released, Microsoft recommended that users temporarily shut down the system using a special command line command.

The company noted that there were no alternative workarounds for the affected configurations, and users had to wait for a fix. Microsoft has now confirmed that the bug has been fixed and that shutdown and sleep modes are working correctly again.
