How dimensional and weight control brings millions to the budget and protects roads

11 March 15:38

During February 2026, automatic weighing-in-motion (WIM) systems recorded violations of size and weight regulations and ensured the payment of more than UAH 7.6 million in fines to the state budget. This was reported by the Recovery Agency, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Leaders in terms of the number of violations

The highest number of truck overloading cases was recorded in three regions:

  • Mykolaiv region – 37 cases
  • Vinnytsia region – 27 cases
  • Ivano-Frankivsk region – 21 cases

How the WIM system works

Dimension and weight control is carried out using sensors built into the road surface, which determine the weight of a moving vehicle.

Cameras record:

  • speed,
  • vehicle dimensions,
  • license plates.

The data is sent to the information processing centers of the Agency for Restoration and Ukrtransbezpeka, where it is checked and fines are issued.

The purpose of the system

According to the Agency for Restoration, compliance with size and weight standards:

  • reduces road damage,
  • improves the discipline of carriers,
  • ensures road safety.

“This is not just about fines, but also about preserving road infrastructure and traffic safety,” the agency emphasized.

Comparison with the previous month

In January 2026, thanks to the WIM system, UAH 6.3 million in fines were paid to the budget.

In the first nine months of 2025, automatic detection of violations brought over UAH 95 million to the budget.
