This year, Ukraine is experiencing abnormal heat, which is breaking past temperature records. However, in addition to unbearably high temperatures, long-term stabilizing power outages are an equally serious problem. In such conditions, Ukrainians cannot fully use air conditioners or fans and are forced to suffer from the heat. So, how to cool an apartment without an air conditioner – read in the article Komersant ukrainskyi

Tips for cooling a room without air conditioning

Protection from sunlight. It is best to try to avoid heating the apartment, and therefore it is necessary to take care in advance to protect the room from the ingress of light rays. Close the curtains or lower the blinds during periods when the sun shines brightest. For greater efficiency, it is better to choose dense light-colored blinds or blackout curtains.

For a better effect, you should additionally cover all windows with white cloth, paper or special foil to reflect the sun’s rays. This method works much better than curtains and helps keep the room cool.

Ensuring proper air circulation and creating a draft. The first step to cooling a room is to ensure proper ventilation. Open windows and doors, creating a draft to improve air circulation. It is best to do this in the morning and evening hours, when the sun does not burn directly through the windows.

Use of fans. If electricity is available, install fans opposite windows or doors to create a flow of fresh air from cool areas. Fans will help improve air circulation in the room and cool it down quickly.

Use of ice or cooling elements. Place a container of ice or special cooling elements that have been pre-chilled in the refrigerator or freezer in front of a fan or near an open window (not on the sunny side). The ice will gradually cool the air entering the room, creating additional coolness in the room.

Creation of additional humidity. For a cool feeling, fill the humidifier with water and turn it on with the fan to spray moisture around the room. In addition, when going to bed, you can cover yourself with a sheet soaked in cool water to help the body cope with overheating. In the absence of electricity, you can spray cold water on curtains and upholstered furniture from time to time.

Hanging wet towels or sheets indoors also helps to lower the temperature. To achieve the maximum effect, this procedure should be repeated approximately every half hour.

Getting rid of carpets. Carpets accumulate and retain heat in the room, so their absence will help you enjoy the coolness of the floor and lower the overall temperature in the apartment.

Sleep on the floor. Hot air rises, so lying or even sleeping on the floor will help reduce the feeling of heat and get better sleep. If you decide to move the mattress closer to the floor, you should remember the need to maintain a minimum distance from the floor, therefore, to ensure air circulation, you need to place wooden slats or pallets under the mattress.

Filling the bathtub with cold water. Another way to reduce the temperature in the apartment is to fill the bathtub with cold water, after which the door to the bathroom must be left open. This will help lower the temperature in the neighboring rooms by several degrees.

Using frozen bottles Freeze water bottles and place them around the perimeter of the room. This method will help reduce the temperature by several degrees, creating a feeling of coolness. This tip can also be used to cool your bed before bed. Place ice bottles on the edge of the bed, and before you go to sleep, transfer them to the floor.

Thus, despite the unbearable heat and lack of light, there are a number of ways to cool your apartment or room. Using them, you can avoid unwanted heating of the room, as well as reduce the temperature in the room by at least a few degrees.
