How the power will be cut off in Ukraine: new rules from Ukrenergo

12 December 2024 16:21

To ensure an even and fair distribution of power supply restrictions, Ukraine is introducing new rules on blackout schedules for both household consumers and industry. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Ukrenergo.

The national energy company emphasized that the changes relate to both the technical aspect and outage management procedures.

What will change for household consumers

More precise distribution of restrictions

The hourly outage schedules in Ukraine will be divided into six stages, which will allow for a more even distribution of power supply restrictions across the regions. In addition, each queue will be divided into two more sub-queues. This will allow dispatchers to regulate the load more precisely: if one queue is too overloaded, it can be reduced by 0.5 queues, or, conversely, increased by 2.5 queues if the current restrictions are not sufficient.

Time to disconnect and re-energize

Each power outage and power supply will have a clear limit of up to 30 minutes, not an hour, as it is now. This will minimize the time without electricity for ordinary Ukrainians.

Unification of schedules

All outage schedules will be reduced to a common denominator across all regions of Ukraine. This means that each group of consumers in each region, as determined by the distribution system operator (oblenergo), will receive a clearly defined time for applying restrictions. Electricians will also take into account the principle of uniformity so as not to create additional inconveniences on weekends and holidays.

Equalization in a week

For all consumer groups, the general equalization will be carried out at the end of the week. The responsibility for this lies with the regional power distribution company, which must ensure a fair distribution of outages for each consumer.

Critical infrastructure facilities

The schedules of hourly outages will not include critical facilities (medical institutions, government agencies, energy infrastructure), which are provided with priority power supply.
