What changes await participants in the 2026 National Mathematics Olympiad: details

This year’s version of the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) will not undergo any major changes compared to last year, but prospective students should take note of updates to the physics and chemistry tests.

Tetyana Vakulenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA), spoke about this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

Test structure: 3 1

“No significant changes are expected in the administration of the NMT this year compared to 2025. The testing model remains unchanged,” says Vakulenko.

Each participant will take four subjects:

  • Required: Ukrainian language, mathematics, and Ukrainian history.
  • Elective: Ukrainian literature, a foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish), biology, chemistry, physics, or geography.

Testing Schedule

As in 2025, the testing will take place on a single day in two stages:

  • First stage (120 min): Ukrainian language and mathematics.
  • Break: up to 20 minutes.
  • Second stage (120 min): Ukrainian history and a subject of choice.

Changes to the physics and chemistry questions

Although the overall model remains stable, changes have affected two subjects:

  • Physics: two multiple-choice questions were added.
  • Chemistry: The number of questions has been reduced—instead of 30 (as was the case last year), applicants will complete 24 questions.

“Traditionally, in 2026, the NMT will not include questions requiring an essay-style answer,” emphasized Tetiana Vakulenko.

This means that the test format remains fully computerized and focused on multiple-choice questions.
