Japanese zoos will be left without pandas for the first time in half a century

Due to the deterioration of relations between Beijing and Tokyo, Japanese zoos will be left without pandas for the first time in 54 years. This was reported by the Kyodo Shushin news agency, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Currently, there are two twin pandas in Japan, which are leased by Japan from China, a male Xiao Xiao and a female Lei Lei. The animals are the main attraction of the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. In January next year, both pandas will be returned to China as their lease expires.

In this regard, Japan fears that the country may be left without pandas for the first time since 1972. At present, a new lease agreement is highly unlikely given the aggravation of Japan-China relations.

In November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that Tokyo would deploy self-defense forces if China tried to establish control over Taiwan.

In response, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Jiang Bin said that Japan would suffer a crushing defeat if it dared to use military force in the situation around Taiwan.
