At the European Championships in Rome, Ukrainian high jump champion Yaroslava Maguchikh defended her championship status. This was reported by the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Maguchikh competed at the European Championships after suffering an injury at the victorious Diamond League stage in Stockholm.

The athlete cleared a height of 2.01m, beating Serbian athlete Angelina Topic, who jumped 1.97m and won silver.

This is the second time that the Ukrainian athlete has become a European champion: the last time she won the title was in 2022.

on 27 August 2023, Maguchikh became the world high jump champion for the first time at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In 2019 and 2022, she won silver medals.

“Of course, it is very cool to become a 2-time European champion. I’m glad I was able to do it, because the main task was to defend the title of European champion and show a good result. And I did it. 2.01 m, the second start, and again the height is over 2.00 metres. Everything is going well, we will continue to prepare,”

– the athlete commented on her victory to Suspilne Sport.

Another Ukrainian, Iryna Gerashchenko, took third place in the championship final with a clearance of 1.95 metres. Gerashchenko had been working towards a medal at the European Championships for a long time. She had already cleared two metres and climbed to the podium of the continental indoor championships, but now she has finally overcome the next barrier, winning bronze at the European Outdoor Championships.
