EU distances itself from Trump’s Peace Council: the main reason
21 January 12:14
Most European Union countries have rejected US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join the Peace Council.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Financial Times.
According to the publication, many in Europe fear that the Peace Council will overshadow the UN as a platform for resolving global conflicts.
As FT sources explained, the invitation to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to join the structure also caused additional concerns in the European Union.
The US president announced the creation of the Peace Council on January 16. The executive committee includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
