The European Union may decide on the frozen Russian assets at a meeting on December 18. This was stated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The number one priority is to guarantee the freezing of Russian assets located in Europe,” Barrot emphasized.

According to him, frozen assets are a significant lever of influence on Russia to achieve peace in Ukraine. The minister emphasized that European countries intend to “protect Ukraine” from financial difficulties in the next two years if the war continues.

Earlier, the Politico newspaper reported that the EU is considering providing Ukraine with a loan from frozen Russian assets. According to the newspaper, the size of this loan could reach €140 billion. These funds are expected to be used to cover the so-called war reparations after the end of the conflict.

In Russia, these EU plans did not go unanswered. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova promised that Moscow would take tough measures to prevent the transfer of Russian assets to Ukraine.

The Russian dictator’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, also promised that Russia would prosecute the initiators of the seizure of its assets in the West.
