Progress towards EU membership

“We discussed Ukraine’s progress towards EU membership, and there is every reason to hope for a positive result for us,” the president emphasized.

Energy assistance

During the conversation, the parties also discussed support for the Ukrainian energy system, which has suffered as a result of massive Russian attacks.

According to Zelenskyy, Ursula von der Leyen informed about the coordination between EU institutions and individual member states that are ready to provide funding to strengthen the Ukrainian energy sector.

“There can be very significant contributions, and we will work to increase them. We agreed that our teams will start working on the implementation of all our agreements this week and agreed on joint further contacts and steps,” the Head of State noted.

The EU is preparing new decisions

According to Politico, the European Union is considering reforming the accession procedure for new members. If approved, these changes could speed up Ukraine’s integration into the EU.

In addition, on November 4, the EU will approve the fifth tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program. It will amount to 1.351 billion euros.

The European partners also reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting Ukraine both financially and technically, particularly in the areas of energy, defense, and reconstruction.
