The European Union intends to oblige Hungary and Slovakia to develop national plans to stop importing Russian energy by 2028. This was reported by Reuters, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“European Union ambassadors agreed on Wednesday to push forward with a blockade plan to end Russian oil and gas imports by 2028 <…> The law will oblige Hungary and Slovakia, the two countries that still import Russian oil, to develop national plans to end these imports by 2028,” the report said.

It is noted that the European Union has removed the “first political obstacle” to the adoption of the law on the rejection of Russian energy carriers by the relevant decision of the ambassadors.

At a closed meeting on Wednesday, October 8, the EU ambassadors agreed to send the proposed law to their ministers for approval at a meeting on October 20, Reuters sources said.

At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary will continue to receive fossil fuels from Russia, despite the demands of US President Donald Trump.
