The European Union wants to start technical work on the integration of Ukraine and Moldova, bypassing Hungary’s veto. This was reported by the British newspaper Financial Times, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“The EU is preparing to begin technical work on Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the bloc, despite the ongoing blockade by Hungary,” the newspaper said.
According to the FT, this issue will be discussed at the summit in Copenhagen on October 1.
Earlier, Politico wrote that the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, is promoting an initiative to change the procedure for admitting new member states to the European Union to circumvent Hungary’s veto on Ukraine’s accession to the union.
According to the publication, as part of the initiative, the President of the European Council proposes to change the procedure for approving each stage of the EU accession process. Thus, the decision is proposed to be made by a qualified majority of the member states, not unanimously. However, to recognize each stage as completed, the consent of all members of the association will still be required.
