Eurostat names the most expensive and cheapest EU countries

The cheapest countries to live in among EU members are Bulgaria and Romania (60%) and Poland (66%). This is evidenced by the data of the EU Statistical Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

At the same time, Denmark is the country with the highest price level (143% of the European average). Ireland (142%) and Luxembourg (135%) are in second and third place.

Last year, alcohol and tobacco products in Ireland cost 3.2 times more than in Bulgaria. This is primarily due to the difference in taxation of these goods, according to Eurostat.

Among the large countries, Italy was the closest to the average, with a consumer basket only 0.2% more expensive than the European average. Germany (8.9%) and Spain (-3.5%) were also close.

A significant difference was recorded in the cost of hotels and restaurants: they are the most expensive in Denmark (152% of the European average), and the cheapest in Bulgaria (52%).

Clothes are the cheapest in Spain (81%) and Bulgaria (82%), while they are the most expensive in Denmark and the Czech Republic (131% and 126%, respectively).

Meanwhile, the most expensive and cheapest countries on the continent are not members of the European Union. The leaders in terms of cost of living are Switzerland (74.3%), Iceland (59%) and Norway (42.9%).

At the same time, the consumer basket in Turkey is 60% cheaper than the European average, and in North Macedonia – by 49%.
