A preventive measure was imposed on the suspect in the murder of politician and linguist Iryna Farion on 26 July. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the National Police of Ukraine.
Vyacheslav Zinchenko was placed under arrest for 60 days (two months) without the right to post bail. The suspect will be held in the Lviv pre-trial detention centre.
This was the measure of restraint insisted on by prosecutors. Following the court hearing, the motion was granted in full.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s lawyer, Igor Sulima, has already told journalists that he will appeal the court’s decision. He requested round-the-clock house arrest for Zinchenko. He explained his position by the fact that there is little evidence in the case to indicate the suspect’s involvement in the murder of Irina Farion.
The human rights activist also explainedwhy he took on the task of representing his client.
“Everyone has the right to a defence, his guilt has not yet been proven, he is only a suspect, not even an accused. And the question is whether he is or is not guilty, this will be proved by the court, but at the moment, I am defending the right,” Sulima said.
Meanwhile, the daughter of the murdered woman said that she was satisfied with the measure of restraint imposed on Vyacheslav Zinchenko.
“Sixty days is enough for him to feel what he has done,” said Sofia Semchyshyn.
At the same time, she said she would demand that the suspect be sentenced to life imprisonment.
As a reminder, the tragic event took place on 19 July at around 19:30 on a street in Lviv. An unknown person fired a gunshot at a 60-year-old public figure. Doctors hospitalised the victim with a head wound. Unfortunately, a few hours later, Iryna Farion died.
on 25 July, law enforcement officers detained a suspect in the murder of the Ukrainian activist in the city of Dnipro.
