The military airfield in Morozovsk, Saratov region, that was hit by Ukrainian drones was one of the airfields that Russia regularly uses to strike Ukraine. In an exclusive commentary to Komersant ukrainskyi
Yuriy Ihnat, a colonel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and former spokesman for the Air Force, said in an exclusive interview with Kommersant Ukrainskyi.
“Russia uses various airfields, including Morozovsk, to strike Ukraine with various air strikes. They have about 40 such airfields: aircraft can fly from one airfield to another… Morozovsk was one of the airfields from which strikes are carried out, including with cabins. In particular, Su-24 reconnaissance aircraft were stationed there,”
– the officer said.
According to him, Russia does not have enough air defence assets to cover both the front line and all important targets deeper in the country.
“They have a huge front line and well-protected Crimea, but they cannot cover the whole of Russia. In addition, the attack UAVs used by the Defence Forces today are also not an easy target for Russian air defence. That’s why the Morozovsk airfield, Moscow City and other facilities, such as oil refineries, are being hit by Ukrainian weapons,”
– ignat said.
As a reminder, last night dozens of drones attacked a Russian military airfield in Morozovsk, Saratov region. According to a source in the SBU, these were Ukrainian drones that destroyed 6 and damaged 8 aircraft.
