New driving licences to be issued in Ukraine from 1 August

Starting 1 August 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centres will start issuing new driving licences and vehicle registration certificates that will have additional security features. The head of the Main Service Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mykola Rudyk, said this on the air of Kyiv24 TV channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The new forms will have enhanced protection due to special markings consisting of three letters and six digits.
Additional security features:
- the protective coating of the forms will have a special marking,
- the certificate form will have a QR code in the lower right corner.
The QR code contains a link to the relevant electronic service posted on the official website of the Main Service Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is used to verify the information entered in the certificate form and confirm its validity.
This enhanced protection will significantly reduce the likelihood of forgery. It will also make it possible to check the legitimacy of a vehicle registration certificate online.
It is worth noting that old driving licences and registration certificates remain valid until the end of their validity period. However, if they wish, citizens can apply to any convenient service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and exchange their driver’s licence and car registration certificate for a new one.
