There were difficulties with the extradition of Mindich and Zukerman: NABU provided details

People who are hiding from Ukrainian justice in other countries try to use the war as an argument in their favor in the courts there. The same applies to businessmen Timur Mindich and Oleksandr Zukerman, who are involved in the Midas case.

The head of the detective unit, Oleksandr Abakumov, said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Answering the question whether the extradition of Mindich and Zuckerman or a trial in Israel is possible, Abakumov noted that all available legal mechanisms are being worked out, including extradition.

“There is a certain general negative trend: people hiding from Ukrainian justice are trying to use the war as an argument in their favor in the courts there – they say it is dangerous here and safer there,” he explained.

At the same time, according to the head of the detective unit, Ukraine already has positive experience of cooperation with other countries in extraditing persons suspected of corruption crimes.

Abakumov emphasized that the NABU is currently working in this direction and will use every legal instrument, whether extradition or other forms of international legal cooperation.

“The key for us is that these people do not escape responsibility, no matter where they are physically located. But the main difficulty may be the fact that these two people are Israeli citizens who are hiding in Israel,” he said.

The scandal at Energoatom

As a reminder, businessman Timur Mindich is one of the defendants in the high-profile corruption scandal at Energoatom. On November 10, the NABU and the SAPO published the so-called Mindich tapes, which show that Energoatom operated a kickback scheme, demanding 10-15% of the transaction amount from contractors.

The scandal also implicated former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and former Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, who have both resigned. Mnidic is also suspected of putting pressure on the current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, who previously served as Minister of Defense.
