Details of Nicolas Sarkozy’s “prison menu” have emerged

For three weeks in prison, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy ate “dairy products, cereal bars, mineral water, apple juice and a few sweets,” Le Figaro writes, citing the politician and excerpts from his new book, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The former head of state spent 23 hours a day in his cell, except when he was visited. Every day he wrote his book at a small plywood table. Through his lawyers, the politician handed over the record to his secretary. A few days after his release from prison, he finished the manuscript. After the lawyers reviewed it, “a few too many harsh portraits” were removed, the article says.

Earlier, Sarkozy compared life in prison to the desert, as he believes that “life is strengthened there.” He noted that in prison there is nothing to see and nothing to do, and the noise does not stop.

His 216-page book is titled Diary of a Prisoner. It will go on sale on December 10.

In November, Sarkozy was released from prison under judicial supervision. This decision was made by the appellate instance of the Paris court, which granted the request of the former head of state’s lawyers. Sarkozy spent almost three weeks behind bars out of the five years he was sentenced to for receiving money from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
