Since the beginning of the year, 79 people have died on Ukrainian water bodies, including six children.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
These are the statistics as of February 20. The vast majority of the dead were men – 65, and 14 women. Presumably, this is due to winter fishing. Despite the fact that the ice is dangerous, people go out on the ice, risking their lives. Most accidents occur on rivers-46, and on ponds-33.
“The worst case occurred in the Kherson region, where four children from one family fell through the ice. One of them was rescued, while the other three unfortunately died,” said Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, a spokesman for the State Emergency Service.
The rescuers also managed to save 68 people from the ice trap, including 20 children.
The SES urges people not to go out on the ice if it is less than 7 cm thick. If you see a person who has fallen through the ice, call the Rescue Service at 101 or 112.
