The number of accidents involving Ukrainian drivers has increased abroad

The number of road accidents involving Ukrainian drivers abroad has increased significantly due to the increase in the length of their stay in other countries. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to data from the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU).
In the first six months of 2024, the number of claims from foreign settlers following road accidents involving Ukrainian drivers increased by 12.78% compared to the same period in 2023 and amounted to 8,028.
The total amount of insurance indemnity paid on such claims amounted to EUR 26 million, which is 19.04% more than in the same period of 2023.
This growth was driven by an overall increase in the average loss amount and the frequency of occurrence of insured events abroad compared to the previous year.
In the first half of 2024, the largest number of settled claims from foreign adjusters concerned Green Card contracts concluded with Ukrainian Insurance Group – 1,715, with a total indemnity of EUR 5.6 million.
TAC, GARDIAN, KNYAZHA VIONNA INSURANCE GROUP and PZU Ukraine also have a significant number of settled claims.
It should be noted that since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian drivers have concluded more than 716 thousand international Green Card insurance contracts, which is 8.7% less than in the same period in 2023.
One of the reasons for the decrease in the number of contracts concluded was the change in the conditions of stay of vehicles with Ukrainian registration in some European countries, which forced Ukrainian drivers to re-register their cars for local registration using the services of foreign insurance companies.
In January-June 2024, the total amount of insurance premiums collected under Green Card certificates increased by 4.7% compared to 2023 and amounted to over UAH 2.6 billion. The revision of insurance premiums under Green Card international insurance contracts in March 2024 was the main reason for this growth.
