ZNPP is again on the verge of blackout: the plant lost power to the main line

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is under another threat of a complete blackout. On Friday, November 14, ZNPP lost power via the Dniprovska high-voltage line, a key electricity supply channel for its safe operation. This was reported by Energoatom, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The company explained that the 750 kV Dniprovska line is the main one to provide power to the temporarily occupied plant. After the loss of this power, ZNPP operates on only one backup line.
“Providing the external power supply to the plant necessary for its safe operation is again under threat. In the event of a complete disconnection from the power grid, another eleventh blackout may occur at ZNPP, which will pose a serious threat to radiation safety,” Energoatom emphasized.
The series of blackouts at ZNPP has been going on for more than two years
on October 23, the plant received power and came out of the tenth blackout, which lasted almost a month.
on October 18, the IAEA announced a temporary “truce” – the facility was allowed to carry out some repairs.
on September 23, Energoatom announced the tenth full blackout since the start of the full-scale war. The company emphasized that the occupation forces deliberately did not connect the plant to a stable power supply.
Why it is dangerous
Having only one working power line is a critical risk. If it is damaged or disconnected:
- the reactor cooling system will not be able to operate;
- the plant will switch to diesel generators, which are sufficient only for a limited time;
- the risk of a radiation accident will increase significantly.
