Killing of 19 soldiers on formation: drone unit commander is suspected

8 November 19:13

The commander of the unmanned systems unit has been notified of suspicion over the deaths of 19 people during a solemn formation in the Dnipro region.

This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, on November 1, the officer organized an event for more than 100 soldiers, including in a place where civilians were staying.

Despite the ban on the accumulation of personnel and the requirement to disperse, after the air alert was announced, the commander did not stop the formation and did not ensure the safe dispersal of the military.

At this time, Russian troops launched a combined missile and drone strike on the places where the personnel were gathered. As a result of the attack, 12 soldiers and 7 civilians were killed, and 36 more were injured.

The Dnipro Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office notified the officer of suspicion of negligence in martial law, which caused grave consequences (part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The prosecutor’s office filed a motion with the court to keep him in custody without bail.

A blow to the Dnipropetrovs’k region

As a reminder, on Saturday, November 1, Russia attacked a village in the Dnipro region. As it later became known, at the time of the shelling, there were soldiers of the 35th Marine Brigade who had arrived to receive an award.

The media, on condition of anonymity, published a conversation with a soldier who had arrived in the Dnipropetrovs’k region that day for the award ceremony.

The soldier said that despite the fact that the alert had been raised, the formation was not canceled.

At the same time, he suggested that they could have been “pissed off” because the enemy knew exactly where they were and struck about 15 minutes after the award ceremony was to begin.
