Sky-high water bills: Kyiv residents advised not to pay
10 February 08:39
In recent days, social media and messengers have been flooded with information about an alleged fourfold increase in tariffs for water supply and sewerage in Kyiv. Kyiv residents began to complain about unexpected amounts in their bills. However, Kyivvodokanal denied these rumors and explained the situation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The reason for the failure in payments
The press service of Kyivvodokanal stated that there was no increase in tariffs, and the overstated amounts in the receipts were the result of a technical failure in the payment systems.
“We emphasize that this information is not true! Tariffs for centralized water supply and sewerage for the population are applied at the level of tariffs that were in effect as of February 24, 2022,” the company emphasized.

What should consumers do?
Kyivvodokanal reassured Kyiv residents and recommended that they temporarily refrain from paying their bills until the problem is resolved.
“Kyivvodokanal’s billing system reflects charges correctly.
We advise consumers not to make any payments today until the problem is fixed,” the company said.
Will water tariffs change?
Currently, tariffs for water supply and sewerage remain unchanged. However, in 2023, the NEURC tried to revise them and decided to increase them by 32% depending on the region. This decision was driven by appeals from utility companies that insisted on the need to adjust tariffs.
However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intervened, calling the regulator’s decision “shameful” and “not agreed with the government.” After that, the NEURC canceled the approved increase and did not raise the issue again.
