Draft law on childlessness tax withdrawn due to criticism

Ukrainian MP Serhiy Hryvko (Servant of the People) has withdrawn draft law No. 11264, which proposes to introduce a “demographic fee”. The author of the document wrote about this on Facebook, Kommersant Ukrainsky reports
“I am withdrawing Bill 11264 to improve the demographic situation. I appreciate those who spoke reasonably and apologise to those who had a negative reaction to this bill. However, such an experience has been used in the world and has been effective. If the society is against even discussing this concept, then I withdraw it,”
– the MP wrote.
The MP proposed to make all individuals – residents of Ukraine aged 21 to 58 years – payers of the “demographic fee”. The following rates were proposed to be introduced:
- 1.5 per cent of the taxable object – for persons without children;
- 1 per cent of the taxable object – for persons with one child;
- 0.5 per cent of the taxable object – for persons with two children.
