Attempt on Iryna Farion’s life: ex-MP’s condition (photos, video)

Linguist Iryna Farion, who was shot by an unknown gunman in Lviv on 19 July, is now on the operating table. The politician’s chances of survival are slim, Lviv City Council deputy Andriy Gutnyk told Kyiv24, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Farion is now undergoing surgery. His condition is extremely serious and critical. The chances are super-critical,” the deputy said.
It is known that the wounded woman was hospitalised at St Panteleimon’s Hospital. The medical institution reported that Farion was in intensive care. No further details were given, citing medical confidentiality.
Meanwhile, the alleged first photo of Irina Farion after the assassination attempt appeared on social media. It shows a woman in pink trousers and a blouse lying on a medical gurney. The victim’s head is bandaged and blood is visible on the bandage.
Attempted assassination of Irina Farion: what the police say
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, wrote on his Telegram channel that the attack on Iryna Farion was classified as an attempted murder. The victim’s condition is serious, and doctors are fighting for her life.
According to the head of the relevant ministry, the police and other necessary services are working at the scene of the shooting. Law enforcement officers already have witness statements and are processing data from CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, in Lviv , the prosecutor’s office has launched the Interception plan to detain the attacker of the injured politician and linguist.
Iryna Farion shot: how society reacted
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel that “all the necessary forces of the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine are involved to establish the circumstances of this crime”.
“Obviously, any violence deserves only condemnation and everyone who is guilty of this attack must be held fully accountable,” Zelensky wrote.
The leader of the Svoboda political party, Oleh Tyahnybok, also expressed his emotions about the incident.
“We pray for the recovery of Iryna Farion. This is a shot at Ukrainian ideals, Ukrainian identity, language and truth. Law enforcement agencies are obliged to find the instigators and perpetrators,” he said.
What happened in Lviv on 19 July
At about 19:30, an unknown person shot at her in the courtyard of the multi-storey building in Lviv where Iryna Farion lives.
Local media reported that the attacker was a young man who had been tracking Farion for some time before he shot her.
The bullet hit the teacher of Lviv Polytechnic in the temple. Doctors are now fighting for her life.
