ZARINA and DonorUA created a collection of jewellery that will save lives

18 March 2024 14:30

DonorUA and ZARINA have teamed up to train military and combat medics in blood transfusion and provide them with everything they need for transfusion, Komersant ukrainskyi reports https://www.komersant.info/

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 60% of preventable deaths in combat are caused by blood loss. The first 36 minutes after an injury are crucial, and timely blood transfusion increases the chances of not only surviving but also preserving a person’s health as much as possible.

In August last year, combat medics who do not have a medical degree were allowed to administer blood transfusions at the pre-hospital stage, i.e. before the wounded are admitted to a hospital or stabilisation unit. This is possible only if the doctors are trained accordingly.

“DonorUA has been developing the donor movement in Ukraine for 9 years, but the full-scale invasion has posed new challenges for us. The My Blood Type project helps to overcome several of them at once. If civilians know their blood type, they will have a better chance of being saved in case of shelling. Combat medics will have the necessary knowledge and tools to help the wounded. Potential donors will replenish the reserve by registering on the platform,”

– says Iryna Slavinska, co-founder of DonorUA and President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Donors of Ukraine.

To support the My Blood Type project, Zarina Netovkina, CEO of ZARINA Jewellery House, and Maria Masliy, producer and ambassador of DonorUA, have developed a collection of jewellery dedicated to our blood. Like blood itself, the collection has no gender. These are silver pendants with the blood type and Rh factor on them, and bracelets that will be complemented by coloured inserts according to the client’s blood type.

All profits from the sale of the jewellery will be used to organise training for military and combat medics and to purchase blood transfusion materials and equipment, including plasma and blood warmers and refrigerators for storing blood at the frontline.

The initiative primarily addresses the needs of stormtroopers, who are at the highest risk of injury on the front line. All profits from the sale are used to:

  • organising training for military and combat medics to enable them to transfuse blood at the pre-hospital stage
  • purchase of materials and equipment for blood transfusions, including plasma and blood warmers and refrigerators for storing blood at the frontline.

Famous Ukrainian military medics have become the faces of the campaign: soldier and paramedic Yulia Payevska (Taira), medic Anastasia Shevchenko (Stasik) and paramedic of the Hospitallers medical battalion Kateryna Galushka. They continue to save lives in our war.

In addition, the boutiques of ZARINA Jewellery House will host blood group testing campaigns. Anyone can come and find out their blood type free of charge in 2-3 minutes. The EldonCard test is conducted by certified instructors of the My Blood Type project. All participants will receive an internationally recognised certificate that will simplify the donation procedure. The brand will raffle off a gold jewellery with a ruby to all those who check their blood type in ZARINA boutiques as a reminder of their involvement in a great and important cause.

“We have set ourselves the goal of not only contributing to the training and supply of combat medics, but also promoting the donor movement in Ukraine in general. We realise how urgent the need is now, so we urge everyone to join our initiative, become donors and save lives,”

– comments Zarina Netovkina.
