The message “The End of the Free Internet” has appeared on Telegram in the European Union (EU) among users of the messenger in a number of countries. By clicking on the plate with the caption “The Internet is becoming a tool of control,” the user is redirected to the channel of Telegram founder Pavel Durov to a post where he talks about censorship on the network, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

It is noted that similar messages have been received by SIM card holders in Italy, Hungary, as well as in Poland, the Czech Republic and France.

“Our generation has less and less time to save the free Internet created for us by our parents,” Durov said in his post.

The entrepreneur notes that what was once a promise of free exchange of information is turning into a powerful tool of control.

As an argument for his position, the Telegram founder reminded that EU countries are introducing “dystopian measures” such as digital IDs in the UK, online age verification in Australia, and mass scanning of personal messages in the European Union.
