Inflated prices for lighting poles: in Kyiv, the case of a Kyivmiskvitsvitlo official was referred to court

The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has sent an indictment to court against an official of the Kyivmiskvosvitlo municipal enterprise. According to the investigation, the city lost more than UAH 3.8 million due to official negligence during procurement.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What are the charges?
According to law enforcement, an engineer-designer at Kyivmiskvosvitlo failed to properly monitor market prices while preparing purchases for a project to overhaul outdoor lighting networks.
This involved the renovation of lighting in the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv, in particular the replacement of outdated lamps with LED ones. As a result, the municipal enterprise purchased lamp posts at an inflated price.
The prosecutor’s office claims that this caused losses to the local budget in the amount of more than UAH 3.8 million.
What punishment is possible
The pre-trial investigation into the case has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to the court for consideration on its merits. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of two to five years.
The investigation was conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the city prosecutor’s office, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
This case is the latest in a series of investigations into possible abuses in the capital’s municipal enterprises.
Earlier, the prosecutor’s office reported on:
- a lawsuit against a contractor who caused almost UAH 490,000 in damages during the construction of an artesian well in Obolon;
- a demand to return the building of the International Center for Culture and Arts in the center of Kyiv to the state;
- suspicions against officials of Kyivmedspetstrans, Kyivpastrans, and other municipal structures for causing millions in losses to the city budget.
