The Ukrainian U-19 national team reached the semi-finals of Euro-2024

The junior football team of Ukraine reached the semi-finals of the junior Euro-2024. In the decisive match, the Ukrainians beat the group leader Italy — 3:2. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ukrainian Football Association.

After two goalless draws, with Northern Ireland and Norway, Dmytro Mykhaylenko’s men needed a win in today’s match against Italy to guarantee a place in the semi-finals. In the event of a draw, the “blue-yellow” needed the parallel match between Norway and Northern Ireland to end with the same score.

The start of the match in Larne at the Inver Park stadium was for the Italians, who created several dangerous moments near the goal of Vladyslav Krapyvtsov. However, in the 7th minute, the very first attack of the Ukrainians led to success – Gennadiy Synchuk scored, who took advantage of a defender’s mistake and masterfully overcame the opponent’s goalkeeper.

Our opponent won in the 34th minute. Bernardo Corradi’s wards received the right to a standard, and after throwing the ball into the penalty area, Tommaso Ebone pushed it past Krapyvtsov — 1:1.

After the break, the teams quickly exchanged goals. First, in the 52nd minute, Marco Romano scored from the central zone, bringing the Italians ahead, but two minutes later, Danylo Krevsun received a heel pass from Matvyi Ponomarenko and restored the balance with a powerful shot – 2:2.

In the 75th minute, the national team of Ukraine received the right to a penalty and a numerical advantage due to the removal of Christian Corradi, who fouled Andriyiv ​​Matkevych. Matvii Ponomarenko clearly converted the 11-meter.

So, 3:2 — the victory of the Ukrainian national team, which reached the semifinals of Euro-2024 (U-19) from the second place of group A and secured a ticket to the WC-2025 (U-20) in Chile.

In the semifinals of the Junior Euro, Ukraine will play against the winner of Group B. The match will take place on Thursday, July 25, at 9:00 p.m.
