Ukraine’s national team wins its third match in a row at the World Ice Hockey Championship

Ukraine’s national ice hockey team has defeated China 9-0 at the IIHF World Championship, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Before the third game day, the national teams of Ukraine, China and Lithuania had two victories each and were at the top of the standings with 6 points each. At the same time, our team was ahead of its rivals in terms of an additional indicator of goal difference.
The Ukrainian national team is playing in the tournament with the following line-up:
Just like in the last friendly match before the World Cup, which Ukraine won against China with the same score of 9-0, our team again left the Chinese no chance. Thus, Ukraine fired 50 shots at China’s goal compared to 7 shots by the opponents.
Ukraine currently leads the championship standings with a maximum score of 9 points and a goal difference of 21.
Ukraine’s group rivals will play their third matches later: at 16:00 Spain will play Estonia, and at 19:30 Lithuania will play the Netherlands.
The World Ice Hockey Championship in Division 1B is taking place in Lithuania and will last until 3 May. The team that takes first place in the group will play in Group A of Division I at the next World Championship. Only the Top Division is higher than Group A. Thus, Ukraine is currently competing in the third strongest division of the World Cup and has a good chance of qualifying for the second division.
Our team has two matches left to play (Kyiv time):
- 1 May. Ukraine – Spain, 12:30;
- 3 May. Lithuania vs Ukraine, 19:30.
