Weapons from the FSB and three cars to escape: what is known about the suspect in the murder of Parubiy
1 September 14:57
Around 1 a.m. on September 1, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced on his Telegram channel that a suspect in a high-profile crime – the murder of former Verkhovna Rada Speaker, MP and public figure Andriy Parubiy – had been detained, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“There will be no details now…,” the minister wrote, emphasizing that the crime was carefully prepared.
According to him, the killer studied the politician’s travel schedule, laid out a route and even foresaw an escape plan.
As “VZ” managed to find out from competent sources, the suspect is a resident of Lviv. A year ago, he experienced a tragedy: his son disappeared. Russian special services took advantage of this grief, offering the man to “return the body of his son” in exchange for the murder of a well-known Ukrainian politician.
The suspect chose Andriy Parubiy because he knew where he lived. According to the investigation, the preparation for the crime lasted about a year. The weapon was handed over to him by representatives of Russian special services. In addition, the killer prepared several cars in advance to leave the scene. All cars were recorded by video surveillance systems.
Law enforcement officers tracked the suspect’s movements, but did not risk detaining him on the highway. The security forces brought him to the Khmelnytsky region, where the man rented an apartment to hide for a while. It was there that he was detained.
According to sources, the suspect pleaded guilty and is actively cooperating with the investigation. He said that he threw the gun and one of his cell phones into a pond and burned his clothes in the Vynnyky forest to hide the traces of the crime.
It also became known that the assassination attempt was originally planned for August 23, the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day. However, something prevented the murder from taking place at that time. In the end, the crime was committed exactly a week later, on the instructions of Russian special services.
The investigation is currently ongoing. The Minister of Internal Affairs promised that more information would be provided to the public after the necessary investigative actions are completed.

Around noon, the police received a report of a shooting. At first, the police reported that the incident occurred in the Sykhiv district, but later clarified that the murder took place in the Frankivsk district of the city. The victim died on the spot as a result of gunshot wounds.
On the day of the tragedy, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Parubiy’s death:

My condolences to his family and friends. All necessary forces and means are involved in the investigation and search for the killer.”

The Office of the Prosecutor General announced the launch of the special operation “Siren”. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi explained that it is a special action plan to find and detain armed criminals who pose a particular danger.
