Passed by 200 points: how many graduates got the best results in NMT

This year, 317,000 participants registered for the NMT, of whom 2,414 across Ukraine received 200 points in at least one subject.

Former Deputy Minister of Education Mykhailo Vynnytsky told RBC-Ukraine in an interview, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

How many children took the NMT in 2025

This year, 317 thousand participants registered for the NMT, while last year it was about 312 thousand, which is almost the same, Vynnytsky said.

If we take into account only those who actually took the NMT, then this year there were 289 thousand of them, and last year – 283 thousand. At the same time, both last year and this year, about 20 thousand children took the test abroad. So the results have not changed much either.

This year, 317,000 people registered for the NMT, while last year this figure was 312, and we can say that this is actually almost the same number.

This year, 289 thousand children took the NMT, while last year it was 283 thousand. Both last year and this year, 20 thousand children wrote NMT abroad. So the results here are virtually the same,” says the former deputy minister.

How many graduates got the highest score

According to the test results, 2414 people across Ukraine scored 200 points in one or more subjects.

“I want to mention an interesting thing here: 1163 of them got 200 points in math. There were a lot of comments on social media about a very difficult math test, which was supposedly impossible to pass because of the difficult tasks. So, almost half of those who passed the NMT with the highest 200 points are people who got them for math,” says Mykhailo Vynnytsky.

According to him, the math test was really difficult. And 12% failed it. Last year, the number was 15%.

“But in math, and most of those who scored 200 points, we see a big gap in this subject. And this is, in fact, exactly the kind of thing that the Ministry of Education and Science will be working on very actively and hard in secondary education. We have two large subventions, each of half a billion hryvnias, aimed at improving the quality of education in high school in natural sciences and mathematics,” he adds.

According to Mr. Vynnytsky, there is no clear breakdown of the regions with the best results. On the other hand, as in previous years, Kyiv and Lviv usually do the best in NMT.

“But in fact, there are some interesting points here. For example, in the Ukrainian language. This is one of the compulsory subjects that all 289,000 people who took the NMT this year have to write. And here, Kharkiv and Sumy regions got stronger scores and better results than, for example, Rivne or Ternopil,” the former deputy minister points out.

He adds that this dispels the myth that these regions are allegedly so-called purely Russian-speaking regions.

“Because in fact, school graduates in these regions often do better in Ukrainian than in the western regions,” the source notes.
