Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the active development of new types of unmanned systems, including maritime and underwater drones. According to him, Ukrainian engineers are already working on technologies capable of operating even in ocean conditions.
The head of state made this announcement during a speech in the British Parliament, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"
Ukraine is expanding the capabilities of maritime drones
The president noted that the development of Ukrainian unmanned technologies has proceeded in stages. Initially, Ukraine used simple kamikaze maritime drones, and later created more complex systems.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine currently has:
- maritime drones with combat modules
- drones capable of destroying aerial targets
- drones capable of attacking ground targets from the sea
- platforms that transport other drones
The president emphasized that these technologies are constantly being improved.
Ukraine is working on underwater drones
A separate area of development is the creation of underwater drones. Ukrainian developers are working on systems capable of performing combat missions underwater.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated:
“We are developing more durable drones that can operate longer at sea. Soon we will have systems capable of operating even in ocean conditions. We are also actively working on underwater systems.”
Ukrainian technologies could change modern warfare
The President also emphasized that Ukraine’s experience in developing unmanned technologies is already attracting interest from international partners.
According to him, such technologies can be used not only in the war against Russia but also to address security challenges in strategically important regions of the world, particularly on maritime trade routes.
Ukraine demonstrates the effectiveness of unmanned weapons
Zelenskyy also noted that Ukrainian developments have already proven their effectiveness during combat operations and international exercises.
In particular, according to the Ukrainian side, during military exercises involving NATO countries, Ukrainian technologies were able to demonstrate high effectiveness, particularly in maritime operation scenarios.
What the development of drones means for Ukraine’s defense
The development of unmanned technologies has become one of the key areas for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. In wartime, it is precisely these innovations that allow the Ukrainian army to gain a technological advantage.
Experts believe that the further development of naval and underwater drones could significantly shift the balance of power in modern warfare and enhance Ukraine’s capabilities in the security sector.
