Zelensky announces a series of calls for peace in Ukraine
7 August 11:50
On Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will hold a series of phone conversations and contacts with international partners to make real progress on the path to peace. He announced this in Telegram, according to
“Today is the day of many calls and contacts to make real progress on the path to peace and guarantee Ukraine’s independence under any circumstances. I have several conversations planned, and a conversation with German Chancellor Merz is already on the schedule. We will be in touch with our colleagues from France and Italy,” he wrote.
According to Zelenskyy, communication at the level of national security advisers will take place today.
The Head of State said that yesterday, after our joint conversation with US President Donald Trump and European leaders, he spoke separately with NATO Secretary General Rutte and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. It is important to discuss key details.
“The priorities are absolutely clear. The first is an end to the killings, and it is Russia that must agree to a ceasefire. The second is the format for the leaders, so that the meeting can work for a truly lasting peace. In Ukraine, we have repeatedly said that the search for real solutions can be really effective at the level of leaders. We need to determine the time for such a format and the range of issues,” the President noted.
The third priority, in his opinion, is the long-term security that is possible together with the United States and Europe.
“Ukraine has never wanted war and will work for peace as productively as possible. The main thing is that Russia, which started this war, really takes steps to stop the aggression. The world has levers of pressure on the aggressor, the world has the ability to check the fulfillment of promises. I am grateful to everyone who is determined to bring the war to a decent end,” Zelenskyy summarized.

The planned meetings are to be held exclusively with the three leaders, with no EU representatives present. Although Europe is trying to coordinate efforts to end the war and supports Ukraine, the call participants allegedly took note of Trump’s position.
It is not yet known whether Putin and Zelenskyy agreed to the proposed format. However, Zelenskyy participated in the call and later said that he had “a conversation with President Trump” and that the position of Ukraine and European partners remains unchanged: “the war must end, but fairly.”
The call was also attended by the British Prime Minister, the German Chancellor, the NATO Secretary General, US Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.
