Zelensky gave three tasks to Umerov as NSDC Secretary

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the tasks for the new Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov. He discussed with him the work of the National Security and Defense Council and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Office, as well as personal tasks in the defense and diplomatic spheres. The head of state announced this in Telegram, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Umerov should continue working with partners on weapons. In particular, to fully implement each agreement with partners on arms supplies, as well as new special agreements on the establishment of joint ventures and the construction of factories on the territory of partners.

“The second is to analyze the status of implementation of the NSDC and the National Security and Defense Council’s decisions, to implement what has been delayed, and to significantly strengthen the format of the Technology Center. We need clear coordination and full implementation of decisions in the defense and security sector of Ukraine,” he said.

The third task for the NSDC Secretary is to intensify the track of negotiations.

“We are now implementing the agreements of the second meeting in Istanbul. We need more dynamics in this process,” he said.

Umerov himself commented on his appointment. He said he would continue to “control all arms deliveries, joint productions and partnerships” and that he would focus on weapons, coordination and control of the security and defense sector, technology and innovation, and the negotiation track. He announced an audit of the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Office.

He listed the key areas he will work on:

  • ensuring synchronization in the defense sector – in the near future, he will audit the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Command and present an action plan to Zelenskyy;
  • weapons – will continue to coordinate supplies and joint production, and remain in constant dialogue with partners;
  • technology and innovation – to resume the full-fledged work of the technology bet to accelerate the modernization of the frontline;
  • negotiations – will continue to work to achieve a just peace “in close coordination with allies”.
