President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French leader Emmanuel Macron have signed a “historic agreement” that provides for long-term cooperation between the two countries.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to a video by the Office of the President of Ukraine and Le Figaro.
It is noted that the President of Ukraine and his French counterpart signed a letter of intent, the content of which is still unknown.
The signing ceremony took place at a military base in Villacoublé.
In particular, it is noted that Ukraine will order 100 Rafale fighter jets from France.
In addition to supplying Kyiv with weapons, the two leaders plan to discuss security guarantees in the event of a ceasefire. It has also been reported that Macron and Zelensky will visit the headquarters of the multinational forces together.
According to media reports, Zelenskyy was to inspect Rafale fighter jets and their weapons, the next-generation SAMP-T air defense system, and several drone systems at Villacoublé air base before holding talks with the French president.
The purpose of the agreement between Ukraine and France is to “put French experience in the arms industry at the service of Ukraine’s defense” and “allow Kyiv (Kyiv) to acquire the systems necessary to respond to Russian aggression.”
The day before, Zelenskyy announced a “historic deal” with France in his evening address. According to him, it will be a significant strengthening of combat aviation and Ukrainian defense capabilities.
