Zelensky awarded Lyashko with the Order of Merit: photo

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded Ukrainian drone operators. In particular, former People’s Deputy Oleg Lyashko received an order. This is stated in the president’s decrees, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Lyashko, who is currently the commander of the unmanned systems battalion in the 63rd separate mechanized brigade, received the Order of Merit, III degree.

The president also awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star to the commander of the Rarog brigade, Oleg “Khasen” Guit, the commander of the Achilles brigade, Yuriy “Achilles” Fedorenko, and the brigadier general of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleg Fedorov.

The award “Personal Firearm” was given to Deputy Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Pavlo “Lazar” Yelizarov and Colonel of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Dmytro Oleksyuk.

The awards ceremony took place during the presentation of the initiative to evaluate the effectiveness of the E-Baly drone units.

Why Oleg Lyashko was awarded

According to the decree of the head of state, Oleg Lyashko, who is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree.

He is currently the commander of the unmanned systems battalion within the 63rd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What does the Order of Merit mean?

The Order of Merit is a state award of Ukraine, which honors citizens for significant personal achievements in:

  • military service;
  • economics and public administration;
  • science and education;
  • the social and cultural sphere;
  • other areas of public activity.

The third degree of the order is the initial level of this award and is often awarded for specific contributions to the protection and development of the state.

Who is Oleg Lyashko

Oleg Lyashko is a well-known Ukrainian politician, former member of the Ukrainian parliament for five terms (V–VIII), and long-time leader of the Radical Party.

He has twice run for president of Ukraine:

  • in 2014, he came in third place;
  • in 2019, he came in seventh.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022, Lyashko joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He currently serves in a combat unit and commands a battalion of unmanned aerial vehicles.
