Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with The Guardian that, unlike other Western leaders, he is not afraid of his American counterpart Donald Trump, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The head of state said that British King Charles III, who is “very supportive” of Ukraine, helped him build relations with the American president.
“We are not enemies of America. We are friends. So what do we have to fear?” – zelensky said.
He added that Trump, like himself, was elected by the people of the country. This choice must be honored. The President of Ukraine called the United States a “strategic partner for many years” with whom the country, unlike Russia, has “common values.”
Zelenskyy also said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is mired in a military campaign against Ukraine. Therefore, he may decide to launch another attack.
As the President of Ukraine emphasized, the Kremlin is currently waging a hybrid war against Europe. It is also testing the strength of NATO’s “red lines.”
It is possible that Russia could open a second front against another European country before the war in Ukraine ends, Zelenskyy said.
“I believe in it. It can do it. We need to forget about the general European skepticism that Putin first wants to occupy Ukraine, and then he can go somewhere else. He can do both at the same time,” Zelenskyy said.
In his opinion, the increase in hybrid attacks with drones in Europe is due to Russia’s lack of progress on the front line.
“Putin is in a dead end in terms of real success. For him, it is more of a stalemate. Therefore, these failures may encourage him to look for other territories. It is very difficult for us, but we are at home and we are defending ourselves,” he said.
He also added that the current regime in Russia needs an external enemy to rally the country around Putin. He has always considered the West and the United States to be enemies, so friendship with Russia is not an option for the United States.
