President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that King Charles III of the United Kingdom was a key figure in convincing U.S. President Donald Trump to support Ukraine more actively after a difficult meeting at the White House in February. The Ukrainian leader said this in an interview with The Guardian, emphasizing that the British monarch always demonstrates commitment and understanding for Ukraine.

“His Majesty is very sensitive to our people. Perhaps ‘sensitive’ is not the right word. He is very supportive of us,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the president, the decisive moment came during Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK in September, when he met with Charles III one-on-one. It was then, according to Zelenskyy, that the king conveyed important signals of support for Ukraine to the American leader.

“I don’t know all the details, but as I understand it, His Majesty sent several important signals to President Trump,” the president said.

Zelenskyy also noted that Trump has deep respect for Charles III and considers him a person of great importance. According to the Ukrainian president, this is an important factor, as such compliments from Trump are rare.

“Trump respects the king and considers him ‘very important,’ which is a sincere compliment that he believes is not addressed to ‘many people,'” Zelensky added.

Thus, according to the Ukrainian president, it was the British monarch who played a subtle but crucial role in persuading the US leader to support Ukraine more in the international arena.
