Zelensky spoke about his phone conversation with Trump: what the presidents discussed

On the evening of February 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to the head of state, representatives of the American side, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, also participated in the call.
Zelensky shared details of the conversation on social media, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Thanks for the support and the PURL program
According to the Ukrainian president, during the conversation, the parties discussed efforts to end the war and further coordination of the negotiating teams.
“Our teams are working hard right now, and I thanked them for all their efforts and involvement in the negotiations and in working to end the war. We really appreciate the PURL program. This winter is the most difficult for Ukraine, but the missiles for air defense systems that we can purchase from the US are very helpful in overcoming all these challenges and protecting lives,” Zelensky said.
In particular, this refers to the supply of missiles for air defense systems, which help Ukraine repel attacks.
Negotiations in Geneva and preparation for a trilateral meeting
The presidents discussed the agenda for the meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations, which is to take place on February 26 in Geneva.
Key issues include
- a package of documents on Ukraine’s post-war recovery;
- a 20-point framework agreement;
- security guarantees;
- prisoner exchanges with Russia;
- preparation of a trilateral meeting in early March.
The Ukrainian negotiating delegation is headed by NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov. The delegation will also include an economic group.
Zelensky expressed hope that the next trilateral meeting will allow for negotiations at the leadership level.
“We hope that it will provide an opportunity to move on to negotiations at the leadership level. President Trump supports this sequence of steps. This is the only way to resolve all the complex and sensitive issues and finally end the war,” the head of state added.
The issue of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and security guarantees
The issue of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is raised separately during the negotiation process. Russia insists on recognition of its control over the ZNPP and its connection to the Russian power grid.
The Ukrainian side proposes a format of joint management of the ZNPP together with the US, with the possibility for the American side to independently determine who will sell the corresponding share of electricity.
Trump’s statement and Ukraine’s position
On February 24, the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Donald Trump addressed the US Congress, where he briefly mentioned the war against Ukraine. Earlier, Zelensky stated that the fate of peace largely depends on the position of the US, and any concessions in a potential peace agreement must be approved by Ukrainians.
Thus, the telephone conversation between the presidents became part of a broader diplomatic process aimed at finding a formula for ending the war and establishing security guarantees for Ukraine.
